Job Summary:
The Network Monitoring Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our organization's network infrastructure by monitoring network performance, analyzing data, and implementing necessary improvements. This role encompasses continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network devices and systems to maintain high availability and reliability. The Network Monitoring Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve network-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor network performance and proactively identify potential issues or bottlenecks.
2. Analyze network data and trends to identify areas for improvement and optimize network performance.
3. Perform network troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
4. Collaborate with network engineers to design and implement network upgrades, expansions, and enhancements.
5. Configure and maintain network monitoring tools to provide accurate and real-time network performance metrics.
6. Monitor network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and virtual private networks (VPNs), to ensure a secure and protected network environment.
7. Maintain documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures.
8. Respond to network incidents and outages promptly, following established procedures and communication protocols.
9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems administrators, database administrators, and software developers, to ensure effective network integration and performance.
10. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to network monitoring and infrastructure management.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven work experience as a Network Monitoring Engineer or similar role.
3. Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, and switching.
4. Proficient with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or similar.
5. Experience with network troubleshooting tools, such as Wireshark or tcpdump.
6. In-depth understanding of network security principles and best practices.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a team and across departments.
9. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
10. Relevant certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent, are highly desirable.
